Disposable or Rechargeable? Which Type of Vape Makes Sense for You

Anyone buying a vape today chooses between three device categories. The differences come down to cost, convenience and waste, here's the overview that makes the decision easy.
The three categories
1. Disposable vapes (e.g. ELFBAR 600, LOST MARY BM600s) Unpack and vape, no charging, no refilling. After 600 bis 800 puffs the device is used up and disposed of as electronic waste. Ideal for trying out a flavour or for on the go.
2. Hybrid systems (e.g. ELFBAR AF5000, LOST MARY BM6000) Rechargeable device plus interchangeable liquid pods with 5,000 bis 7,000 puffs. The middle ground: almost as hassle-free as disposable, but noticeably cheaper per puff and with far less waste.
3. Pod systems (e.g. ELFA Pro, ELFX, SKE Crystal Plus) Rechargeable device, you only swap the compact pod. The largest flavour selection per system and the lowest running costs, in return, you have to charge regularly and buy pods.
The cost breakdown
A worked example over 6,000 puffs (rounded prices, as of June 2026):

The exact figures depend on the model, but the order of magnitude is clear: if you vape regularly, rechargeable is clearly cheaper. Disposables are mainly worth it for testing.
The waste factor
Every disposable vape contains a lithium battery and electronics. With regular use this quickly adds up to dozens of devices a year. Hybrid and pod systems cut that waste to a fraction, and Swiss retailers take back old devices free of charge (VREG return obligation). Important for all categories: never in household waste.
