Vaping without nicotine has become more popular, especially among people who like the ritual and the flavour but no longer want nicotine. The good news: on many widespread devices it isn't about the device itself, but about the right choice of liquid or pod. This guide shows you how to get nicotine-free vapes and what matters along the way.
If you want to go deeper, we have covered the topic in detail on our overview page on vaping without nicotine. This article adds the practical side: concrete device types and what you look for when buying.
First things first: 0 mg is a matter of what it is filled with
Here is a point many people get confused. A device isn't automatically "with" or "without" nicotine. On refillable systems the liquid decides, on pod systems the pod, on disposable vapes the variant you choose. The same hardware can therefore run at 20 mg/ml or at 0 mg.
The models we feature in the shop as popular recommendations (ELFBAR, LOST MARY, ELFA Pro and the like) come with nicotine in our standard range. Many of these ranges are also available from the manufacturer in 0 mg, though. Which nicotine-free variants are currently in stock is bundled in the nicotine-free vapes category.
Which device types suit 0 mg?
In principle all of them, as long as the matching filling is available. It is worth distinguishing by design, though.
| Type | How you get to 0 mg | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| Disposable vape | Choose the variant in 0 mg, nothing to refill | Anyone who just wants to test it |
| Pod system | Nicotine-free pod or self-filled liquid in 0 mg | Anyone who vapes nicotine-free regularly |
| Hybrid system | Refill or liquid in 0 mg | Anyone who already has a device |
| Refillable | Simply buy the liquid in 0 mg | Maximum control over the strength |
Anyone who vapes without nicotine regularly is often best off financially with a refillable or pod system, and produces less waste than with disposable devices.
Does 0 mg taste different?
Yes, a little. Nicotine (especially as nicotine salt) provides the slight scratch in the throat, the "throat hit". Without nicotine, the draw becomes softer and rounder. The flavour content stays the same, so the liquid still tastes of watermelon, mango or menthol just like before, only the sharpness in the throat is missing.
Some people therefore find 0 mg "too gentle". One trick: stronger flavours (Ice variants, menthol, intense fruits) add noticeable character even without nicotine. How different flavours come across, we have gathered in the guide to vape flavours and varieties.
Nicotine-free doesn't mean harmless
Even without nicotine, the vapour aerosol contains substances such as propylene glycol, glycerine and flavourings. "Without nicotine" therefore doesn't mean "without everything". Nicotine-free vapes are not a means of relaxation or health improvement, but simply a variant without an addictive substance. Anyone who has never smoked or vaped has no reason to start, not even with 0 mg.
And CBD?
Anyone who misses the throat hit or is looking for a different direction sooner or later comes across CBD vapes. That is a separate topic with its own rules (THC limit, declaration). What applies in Switzerland and what doesn't is set out in the CBD vape guide. You will find CBD products in the CBD vapes category.
In short
- 0 mg is a matter of what it is filled with, not the device: the same hardware also runs nicotine-free.
- Our recommended models come with nicotine as standard, many ranges are additionally available in 0 mg.
- Currently available nicotine-free variants are bundled in the nicotine-free vapes category.
- 0 mg tastes softer (no throat hit), strong flavours help.
Nicotine-free doesn't mean risk-free: the aerosol still contains flavourings and carrier substances. Products containing nicotine are highly addictive. Sale only to adults aged 18 and over. Does not replace medical advice.
