Summer by the Lake: Compact Pods for Days Out

A swimming day at Lake Zurich, Lake Lucerne or Lake Lugano: the vape comes along, of course. It's just that neither the battery nor the liquid is particularly fond of full sun, and water even less so. A few simple steps keep the device intact and the day relaxed.
Heat is the biggest enemy
A lithium battery in direct sun quickly becomes a problem. So don't leave the vape on your beach towel, the car dashboard or a hot stone. Heat ages the battery and, in extreme cases, the device gets genuinely hot and is no longer safe afterwards. More on this in the Vape Battery Safety guide.
Here's the better way to do it:
- Store it in the shade, in your bag, rucksack or under your towel, never on top.
- Don't leave it in a hot car, where 50 degrees and more are quickly reached in summer.
- Keep the liquid cool: flavour and nicotine change under sustained heat, and the taste suffers.
Water and vapes don't mix
It sounds obvious, but it happens all the time: the vape slides into the beach bag next to the wet swimming trunks, or falls off the jetty into the water. Electronics and water are not a good combination. So pack the device away dry, ideally in a small pouch or a waterproof case. A few grains of rice inside help against moisture. And only take it near the water if it stays dry.
Compact beats bulky
For the lake you don't want to lug around a big device. A small pod system fits in any pocket, it's light and easy to reach. Two examples that suit days out:
- The LOST MARY Tappo Air Kit Yellow Pineapple Ice: compact, light and with interchangeable pods, ideal for a beach day.
- The SKE Crystal Plus Kit Grey Cherry: handy, robust and easy to use.
Both use interchangeable pods, so you don't have to fiddle with refilling liquid, you simply swap the pod. Handy when your hands are sandy or wet.
Battery tips for a day outdoors
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Long day at the lake, no power | set off fully charged, take a spare pod |
| Vape gets hot in the sun | move it into the shade, let it cool down briefly |
| Sand in the charging port | blow it out dry, don't plug anything in |
| Device was briefly in the water | don't charge it, let it dry thoroughly first |
A power bank in your rucksack never hurts, in case the day runs longer than planned. But charge in the shade and never unattended in full sun.
Stock up before the trip
So the swimming day doesn't fall flat because of an empty vape, it's worth stocking up beforehand. iVape ships from its warehouse in Switzerland, with free delivery from CHF 29 and often as soon as the next working day, for example to Lucerne, Zurich, Lugano or Biel.
In short
- Avoid heat: store the vape and liquid in the shade, never in a hot car.
- Keep it dry: water and electronics don't mix, pack it well near the water.
- Compact pods like the Tappo Air or SKE Crystal Plus are ideal for days out.
- Stock up beforehand, set off with a spare pod and a fully charged battery.
